Members enjoyed a great boating weekend away (26 - 28th October) on the Murray River at Echuca/Moama.  You can read all about it in the next issue of Shavings.

Echuca is the home to the largest fleet of paddle steamers in the world and includes PS Adelaide (1866), the world's oldest wooden hull paddle steamer.

A draft program is as follows.

Friday or early Saturday, launch boats. Mooring is available in the marina area on a first come basis.

Saturday 26th  10.30 am, cruise up-stream in our boats on the Murray river to Horseshoe Bend or Boileau Beach in the Echuca regional park, a distance of between 5 km and 8 km’s. BYO lunch to eat on the river bank. (note: no facilities)

Saturday night will be dinner at a local club or hotel.

Sunday am we will do breakfast in the camp kitchen at the Caravan Park before heading to the Port of Echuca for an optional 11 am, 1 hour cruise on an authentic wooden steam powered Paddle Steamer.

Boats should be able to be moored in the “Wet Dock” area just to the east of the wharf, or for those heading home on Sunday, drive and park near the Port. There is often room for car and trailer parking along Murray Esplanade to the west of the port precinct.

After the cruise we can explore the Port area, or cruise downstream for a while before returning to the Caravan Park for those staying on till Monday.

Elsewhere in Shavings you will find details of the Caravan park if you have not already booked, or call me on 0414442518.

David Stott.

Note!    The Maidens Inn” Caravan Park located on Deniliquin Street Moama - our suggested meeting place - is completely booked out - not even unpowered sites left.  Strong demand for accommodation due to a soccer tournament.

If you have booked already and have space you would be able (and willing)  to share, and are happy to offer to other members, please let me know - and- if you need accommodation, please indicate.  Maybe something can be worked out.   Editor
