I was given a copy of this book at Christmas, and I have found it to be a fascinating read. As the title suggests, this book describes the Port Phillip coastline, and provides information on the geography, animals and plants that you are likely to encounter.
A good deal of history is also included, making it an interesting book to have in the car whenever you venture along Port Phillip. For example, did you know that you can still see the remains of an Aboriginal rock well at Half Moon Bay? The front wall of the well has been breached, reputedly by the vendors of hot water, who did not want potential customers able to obtain water from another source.
The book contains a large number of recent and historic photos, as well as maps identifying key features and locations (although I found the maps to be a bit small for my eyes).
Written by Graham Patterson, and available in most book shops for around $30, there is also a companion edition that covers Western Port.
Well worth looking out for, and for dipping into again and again.
